Department of Communications and Public Relations

The Department of Communications and Public Relations (DCPR), formerly Communications and Consumer Affairs came into being following the adoption a new organisational structure by BTA in April 2000. The new structure is geared towards sustaining the Authority in a liberalised telecommunications environment. The department changed its name to Communications and Public Relations in 2003 following the establishment of Compliance and Consumer Affairs Department to handle issues related to compliance, enforcement and consumer complaints.

DCPR Responsibilities

" To promote positive interest in, and coverage of, developments in the telecommunications sector in general and to encourage investment and diversity of services.

Communications Strategy

The DCPR has developed a Communications and Marketing Strategy is to facilitate the delivery of the BTA strategic plan, and in particular, to drive the stakeholder value proposition or stakeholder perspective. The strategy equips the DCPR to promote a positive image of the BTA, further improve relations with the media so as to promote interest in, and create positive publicity for the BTA. It allows the DCPR to develop and implement appropriate communications and education campaigns for consumers in Botswana. The Strategy further provides for the promotion of a positive interest in developments in the Botswana telecommunications market for potential investors. The underlying objective is to proactively promote a positive image of the BTA and ensure that BTA fulfils its mandate to continuously improve telecommunications service provision by facilitating ongoing consultation and feedback.
